On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1971 on what became known as the “Decimal Day” in the United Kingdom, the British currency was brought onto the base 10 system. Before this date one British pound was made up of 240 pence (20 shillings) which made it difficult for those who didn’t grow up in the system to calculate exact change. Truth be known, it was even difficult for those who grew up in the system. There were those against the change as they were wont to say, “If getting cheater in a trade and not knowing if getting the correct change was good enough for me old grandpappy, it’s good enough for me and me grandkids!”
