August 29, 1985

On this date in Twisted-History.com in 1985 New York Yankee player Don Baylor was hit by a pitch for the 190th time during his career, setting a modern day record for players who played after 1900. This was the 22nd time during the 1985 season that he was plunked and when winning Yankee pitcher Phil Niekro was questioned about Baylor’s feat, the old knuckleballer was quoted as saying, “I’m not saying that Baylor’s a masochist, but the Marquis de Sade wants his whips back.”
