August 7, 1620

On this day in Twisted-History.com in 1620, German mathematician, astronomer and astrologer Johannes Kepler’s mother, Katharina, was arrested for being a witch and practicing witchcraft. She allegedly caused one woman to become sick and turned one man into a newt. Kepler personally saw to her legal defense and was able to prove that she had not practiced witchcraft. Also, the man who had been turned into a newt got better before the trial and did not prove to be a reliable witness.
