On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1866 the metric system was legalized by the U.S. Congress for the standardization of weights and measures throughout the United States. Parents and teachers and preachers all started to immediately complain. They said that if pounds and pints and gallons were good enough for Jesus, Moses, and Noah, then it should be good enough to teach their kids instead of this gram and liter crap along with those foreign prefixes like centi or deci or milli. Their rallying point was “No New Math”.
