On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 2013 in an effort to curb obesity rates, the United Arab Emirates offered its citizens one gram of gold for every kilogram of weight they lost. 1 kilogram equals to about 2.2 pounds so someone who lost 22 pounds would earn 22 grams of gold or $814 at today’s price of $37 per gram. But that was only for UAE citizens. The United Arab Emirates currently has a population of 9.2 million people with 1.4 million being citizens. The rest are expatriates that reside there for the employment opportunity to serve and grovel at the feet of the extremely rich.
