On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com in 1983 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that retirement plans could not pay women smaller monthly payments solely because of their gender. They had to find another reason or reasons to do so, such as because women are subject to less stress than men and will most likely live longer, their monthly pensions would have to be adjusted to reflect their longer life-spans. The fact that they’d only waste it on shoes and bingo was overlooked as a legitimate reason.
