On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com in 1790 in Paris, France the Marquis of Condorcet proposed granting civil rights to women. The Marquis, Marie Jean Antoine Nicolas de Caritat (just call me Nick or Nicolas) was the French Benjamin Franklin of the French Revolution and he advocated a liberal economy, free and public education, constitutionalism, equal rights for women and people of all races. In 1794 he died a mysterious death in prison after he was branded a traitor by French Revolutionary authorities for espousing his ideas and not backing down when they were changed by others in the newly formed government.
