On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1965 the outer Astrodome ceiling was painted at a cost of $20,000 because of the sun’s glare. This caused the grass to die. Yes, the Houston Astrodome was constructed with a natural grass field, but because of the sun’s glare as it came through the glass ceiling and having to counteract that so the players could see to play, artificial turf was invented.
