On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1865 outdoor advertising legislation was enacted in New York and banned “painting on stones, rocks and trees” as a means to tell others about your business or business opportunities. The writing on a bathroom wall at a bar or pub was specifically excluded.
