On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1810 the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte was married by proxy to Archduchess Marie Louise of Austria. The wedding took place at the parish church of the Hofburg in Vienna. Since the Emperor couldn’t make the wedding, the Archduke Charles of Austria stood in his place for the ceremony. History does not say if he also performed the wedding night duties.
