On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1985 the Center for Disease Control reported that more than half of all nine-year-olds in the U.S. showed no sign of tooth decay. The CDC said this was proof that fluoridation was working. Other groups against fluoridation claimed that the decrease in tooth decay in the US was part of a natural cycle that was going to happen anyway and that the fluoridation of the water was part of a communist, liberal plot to force medication upon the God-fearing American public. These groups also claim that while no scientific studies have shown that fluoridation have caused birth defects like Down’s Syndrome, autism, or the belief that the universe is more than 7,000 years old, there were also no studies that prove that fluoridation didn’t cause these things to happen.
