On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1887, the Aurora Ski Club of Red Wing, Minnesota became the first US ski club. Hans Johannsun, one of the founding members later mentioned after an afternoon of cross-country skiing that skiing across a flat field (Minnesota is very flat) was nice and produced a satisfying amount of exercise, but wouldn’t skiing down a mountain be more fun. He was immediately elected president of the club.
