On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1913 the 16th Amendment was ratified, which made the imposition and collection of a federal income tax the law of the land. Many people today, such as Sovereign Citizens and other nutjobs, claim this amendment doesn’t exist or is unconstitutional and doesn’t have to be obeyed. On April 24, 2008, Actor Wesley Snipes was educated in the Federal Courts that this law does exist and will be enforced. He served three years in prison and had to pay the taxes (a couple of million) owed, plus a hefty fine.
