January 16, 1920

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1920 the 18th Amendment ‘Prohibition’ went into effect and the product, transportation, sale, and consumption of alcohol became illegal and instantly criminalized 40% of the American population and the effect of this ‘religious-based’ law was to create and enriched criminal organizations all over America over the next 13 years until it was overturned by the 21st Amendment in 1933. It should be strongly noted that Americans didn’t stop drinking or making alcohol, they just did it with the knowledge that it was illegal. In fact, it made millionaires out of many Mexicans and Canadians, as alcohol was still legal in those countries and Americans swarmed across the borders to get their hot toddies.
