On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com 1988 a debate was held between the Democratic and Republican candidates for vice president, Lloyd Bentsen and Dan Quayle. During the debate, in a heated moment, Lloyd Bentson told Dan Quayle “You’re no Jack Kennedy,” and Quayle responded, “Well, you’re no Marv Turlinsen!, I bet you can even spell cat if I spot you the C and the A.” Mr. Bentsen looked confused and said, “C A T” causing Quayle to erupt and shout, “But I just spotted you the C and the A. You cheated, just like Marv did. You’re exactly like him, you cheater!” It later came to light that Marv Turlinsen took third place in Quayle’s 5th grade spelling bee, regulating him to the out of the medal position of fourth place.
