On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com in 1975 Confederate General Robert E. Lee had his U.S. citizenship restored by the U.S. Congress. The only reason it wasn’t restored while he was still alive was that the political leaders of that time were afraid he’d run for President of the United States and that he’d be elected by an overwhelming majority of voters from both the North and the South.
