On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1860 the book, “Malaeska, the Indian Wife of the White Hunter” by Mrs. Ann Stevens, was offered for sale for a dime. It was the first published “dime novel.” Mrs. Stevens wrote several other books, the plots of which seemed to be a woman looking for a strong man to marry. When her husband, Edward Stephens, was asked about this, he would look nervously over his shoulder and say nothing.
