On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1935 “Invisible” glass was finally patented by Gerald Brown and Edward Pollard. They lost the first six samples they were going to take to the Patent Office and would have lost the seventh, if Mr. Brown’s out-of-work brother-in-law, Thomas, had not recommended that they put a dab of paint on the sample to keep from losing it. Because he never let them forget how he saved their patent, Edward and Gerald stopped referring to Thomas as “Old Shiftless” to “That Smart-Arse”. Thomas was very pleased with the nickname upgrade.
