October 26, 1949

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY! in 1949, US President signed into law the raising of the minimum wage from 40 to 75 cents an hour. Staunch Republicans and business leaders railed and protested against the law and predicted that the US economy would collapse and that most small businesses would fail due to the increased costs. Most conservative church leaders also called the move communistic and against God’s plan of allowing the business market to determine the price of labor. When asked what part of the Bible that came from, the religious leaders would look to their business leaders for an answer before shouting, “DO YOU COMMIE PINKO FAGS HATE JESUS!” When it became apparent that the law was not going to be overturned, the richest business leaders swore they would take their toys and go to another country. They didn’t and America experienced an unprecedented growth of the American middle class.
